A precious house museum in the heart of the metropolis. The Milanese Museo Bagatti-Valsecchi is the result of a peculiar collectors’ endeavour that took place at the end of the 1800s. The protagonists of this tale were the barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi.
In the 1880s the two beauty and art loving brothers undertook the restoration of their family residence located between via Gesù and via Santo Spirito. They adorned the residence with 15th and16th century paintings and artifacts that they personally collected. They thus managed to recreate the atmosphere typical of 16th century Lombard homes and the Bagatti Valsecchi residence became a safe haven for magnificent art treasures.
Today World Capital, (the museum’s promoter) will accompany through the Museum Library to get a glimpse of its splendor.
“A place designed to encourage study and concentration, but also to delight the eyes”. This is how the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum Library can be defined in a few words. “The walls are lined with hardwood built-in bookshelves and decorative motifs painted by L. Cavenaghi that were inspired by Bergognone’s 16th century frescoes. The ceilings are adorned with gold inserts. Ivory artifacts, scientific instruments, caskets and a pair of admirable globes, an earth one and a star one, dating from 1579, are placed on a big study desk which constitutes the centerpiece of the room”.
